Sunrise Over Mt. Tom

What a bitter cold morning! I woke up nice an early around 4:30 am in the small town of Bishop along highway 395 in the Eastern Sierra. When i first rolled out of my sleeping bag (never easy when it's a handful below zero) the Sierras were covered in clouds. Usually a good thing, but this time, it covered the whole mountain. As I drove around aimlessly, scouting a spot to shoot, I ended up at this location, and as the sun began to rise, a nice layer of clouds rolled in from the west. When the sun began to rise over the snow covered Owens Valley, I watched some of the most exquisite light I have experienced in the Sierras and left with this image.

Low Elevation Snow

As any people who have been on the West Coast these last few days know, the weather has been verrrrrry cold. With temperatures below freezing almost every night, San Francisco Bay Area residents were greeted with a covering of snow that left more snow than most residents had ever seen in the area blanketing all the surrounding hills and mountains. While hiking in the Las Trampas range, I stumbled upon this location near Eugene Oneil's historic Tao House over looking the San Ramon Valley. I did make it to the top where there was still about 1.5 inches still at days end. As I hiked down the hill to this location I had previously scouted on the way up, the mud was so slick, I fell and tumbled on my back, camera and all and slid about 40 feet down the hill. Luckily, I made it to this location, draped in mud just before the sunset.

The End of Fall

As fall winds down, I feel like I took a pretty good stab at captureing the fall light. I hit the Napa Valley, North Cascades National Park, Big Sur, The Columbia River Gorge, all over Washington, Yosemite and The Eastern Sierra just to name a few. I know I usually come back with many stories of being attacked by people in the night, or getting stuck in freak snow storms, but other than a few late night police roustings, it's been pretty calm. Good News is, I have come back with plenty of images to share, bad news is, I cant show them all quite yet, because that would take away from the fun of the new releases. So for now I will give you these 4. Enjoy!

First Trip to North Cascades National Park

The North Cascades National Park is Breathtaking! I assume the mountains under the cloud cover are too, but I wouldn't know anything about that. When the Pacific northwest autumn weather rolls in, I usually take to the canyon floors and photograph in the wonderful soft light, that the cloud cover and rain bring with them. This grove if found not far off the road near the entrance to the park.

A New Look at Old Images

While looking through some old out takes, I found these images that didn't make the cut first time around.

Wet Days in The Greater Napa Valley

After waiting 3 days for a storm to clear, I finally got some good light. I spent a lot of time up north near Healdsburg, Ca shooting the fall colored vineyards. I had previously scouted these locations but knew, that they would need the fall colors to really pop. After many visits and even more failed attempts, I came up with these...
